Desert Companion’s Best of Vegas

Featuring:

Best tapas (in a town suddenly filled with tapas): Julian Serrano

Best bread: Joel Robuchon (Note to “Mad Man” Mancini (who wrote the entry): Our staff thinks it’s a toss up between JR and Guy Savoy.)

Best dessert: Canneles de Bordeaux at SAGE (Unpleasant update: Shawn McClain informed us last night (2.4.11), that canneles were no longer on the menu, and Lura Poland was no longer with the restaurant.) ;-(

Best salsa: Frank and Fina’s Cocina

Best restaurant splurge: Twist by Pierre Gagnaire

Best vegetarian dish: Orange-braised fennel at Lakeside Grill

…and our personal favorite category:

Best restaurant that’s closest to John Curtas’ house: Anthony & Mario’s Broadway Pizzeria

Two questions though:

Where the hell is John Mull’s Meats? (Answer: 3730 Thom Blvd.?)

And who the hell approved Einstein’s Bagels and White Cross Drugs as having the best coffee in town?

ELV thinks this is what happens when you let the children play dress-up.

Or, when you send a boy to do a man’s job.

  1. Depends on how they measure “best coffee”, but I’ve never had cold, old or bitter coffee at Tiffany’s. I assume that’s what they meant with White Cross Drugs, right? I’m sure it’s Folger’s, but I’ve never waited more than 30 seconds for a cup, and that’s enough to put them a mile ahead of most.

  2. Hey, different strokes for different folks. I must admit I enjoy me my lattes, mochas, cappuccinos, et al, some times… But there are also folks like my dad who just want their cup of joe in the morning.

What else can I say? ;-)

  3. At least they didn’t say “Starbucks.” o.O
I would have started ripping my hair out, if that were the case.

  4. If they’re not making the canneles anymore, could you tell them to give me my cannele molds back? >:(
