Top Burgers In Vegas – as usual, the R-J gets it wrong

The Las Vegas Review Journal is so simple-minded, relentlessly lowbrow, and mired in mediocrity when it comes to its food (TASTE) section that we usually ignore it the way we do a NASCAR race or American Idol.

But when it comes to burgers, something needs to be said.

Here is today’s “Top 10 Burgers In Vegas” article that methinks would suffice as a very good April Fool’s day joke — if it had been published six weeks ago.

Apparently the author, Heidi Knapp Rinella has never heard of the Bradley Ogden burger, Stripburger, Palm, Mesa Grill, Country Club Grill, Boulud Brasserie, Island Burger…or even LBS Burger for chrissakes — all of whom put out a superior product to eight of her 10 listed.

And is it ELV or are most of the pictures of these “top” burgers supremely unappetizing?

At least she had the good sense to include BLT Burger and Burger Bar — the two that deserved to be a the top of the page — but the rest of the list is typical R-J pandering to the know-nothing demographic that (it thinks) still determines the cultural zietgeist around these parts.

It’s just sad. Really.

  1. “It’s just sad. Really.”

    – You called it JC, nothing more to add than that!

  2. Has anyone else had a bad experience at BLT Burger? The burger I had there was awful. Both the person I was eating with, and I ordered it medium, and it couldn’t have been more well done. I’m not sure I could seperate it from a Fatburger in a blind taste test. Also, after the post on here about LBS Burger being expensive, I noticed this place MUCH more expensive. The prices are about the same as LBS, but the difference is, you pay extra for cheese, and fries, which is significant. 1.00-1.50 for cheese, and $5.00 for the waffle fries I had. The shake I had was decent. The Macaroon dessert looked like it had spent alittle too long in the freezer, it had more of a brownie consistancy than a macaroon.

  3. It was indeed a mortal sin to exclude Bradley Ogden’s sublime burger from the list

  4. LBS burger should have been on this list for sure!!!!! 11.50 for a huge hamburger with a pile of fries isnt expensive (can get pricier when you add all those awesome cheeses and toppings) i had the worst experience ever at BLT, 4 ppl was over 100 bucks for a burger fry and soda each, i had a lamb burger that should have been labeled a MUTTON burger, it was so gamey i had 2 bites and didnt touch the rest, and the manager and server both came to the table and didnt notice my food hadnt been touched. and of course it was on the bill, i would never go back and wouldnt send anyone. big disappointment after to dining at the NYC location, which was ok.

go check out LBS Burger Joint for happy hour, half off the food and draft beers!!! you cant beat that deal in this economy, try it once and you will be hooked!!

  5. I haven’t tried any of these great burgers in L.V. I know, I’m a loser!!! :(

ELV – Several sources have told me Bradley Ogden is tops here in town. How do they fit into your list? BLT really #1 in your opinion?

Next time you’re in New York go to Minetta Tavern. Best burger – head and shoulders above the rest.

  6. LBS is one of the most overpriced burger places in Vegas – especially considering that you get more bun than meat. The only thing they have going for them is a decent draft beer and sweet potato fries…but those alone aren’t worth walking into that place.

It’s Ogden, Burger Bar and Mesa Grill followed by the rest…though I still love me an In ‘N Out burger or Fatburger on a long night of drinking.

Still haven’t tried BLT Burger but need to check it out. Laurent Tourondel is a great chef, or once was, his BLT Fish in NYC is a great place for fried clams, mussels and a brew. Need to see what he can do with burgers too.

  7. It’s a bloody burger for gods sake. Typical Vegas, only they could hype up a beef pattie

  8. ELV, thank you for making it clear from the beginning which “RJ” you’re talking about …

    Take care,
    rjwong

  9. Given the choice between spending $20 for a burger and fries and BLT and going to In-n-out for $6 I will take In-n-out every day of the week.
BLT burger was a huge disapointment.

  10. What do you think who will become the 2010 Amarican Idol? Will it be Lee or will it be Crystal? Has been the most exciting cycle by far. Can’t wait to find out who will succeed.
