SHUSEKI

Shuseki appears to be under new management. The previous menu had about forty printed items. (We were particularly fond of the ramen, gyoza (pot stickers) and raw, wasabi octopus.) The new menu has 179 listed dishes — each with an accompanying photograph.

We pointed at three and were only disappointed with one — the fishiest fish tasting fish we’ve encountered in….like….forever! The plump little buggers were mealy of texture and strong to the point of nose-holding. (And did we mention they were really, really fishy?)

We figured that’s how Nipponese natives like ‘em, but try as we might, two bites were all we could stomach.

And keep in mind: The Food Gal is a smelt, sprat, sardine, anchovy and canned fish freak…and even she wuz one (chomp) and done.

That being said, it was a fine, late night, Japanese food fix. We shall return.

The three items pictured, along with a Sapporo beer and some hot tea, came to $40 (including an $8 tip).
