So Tell Us Something We Don’t Know…

As you know, ELV is an ominous, omnipresent and omniscient presence on the Las Vegas food scene.

But as he sits here amongst the eaten turkey and enough country ham… [imagebrowser id=897]…to last him until April, he realizes two things are always in short supply around the ELV offices: ideas and information.

Is ELV interested in what we know about what’s going on in the Vegas food world? Or is he seeking anecdotes about food, people, cooking and/or restaurants that might be of interest to him and his readers/listeners at some future time?

Well, yes and yes, Hypothetical Reader Asking Questions.

For example: Backyard barbecue-rs. Not Uncle Charlie who likes to throw a rack o’ ribs on the Weber a few times a year. Serious smokers who treat barbecue like the religion it is. Know any? We do. But we are beginning a quest to locate ‘cue that puts the commercial stuff in our lousy ‘cue town to shame. And maybe interview those folks. And maybe put them on TV or the radio about how and why they cook what they do, and why their methods and sauce are superior to all others.

Or do you know of something like the Blue Diamond Gourmet Dinner held every Spring in….what part of town was that again? In other words, is there something or someone going on in our food or restaurant world that we need to know about?

The only requirement is that the information or the person or the food be absolutely fabulous!

Or interesting.

You get the point.

  1. Food Trucks.
I only know of 2 so far. One is ‘SlidinThru’…a slider/burger truck….good burgers!!! (they even have a Greek one called the yiayia)…
The other was this truck called ‘Flowrider’…they make a really good burger too and an out of this world phillysteak…and the prices were crazy cheap. The only problem is now I think they only do catered events???

  2. Food trucks are nothing new and enough has been done on Slidin’ Thru, Fukuburger, etc. But maybe some of the lesser known gourmet food trucks like Curbside Cafe? Doug, the owner, is really nice and used to own his own seafood restaurant here in the valley.

Another thing that might be interesting to report on is Yelp. Las Vegas recently got a community manager in April/May and that mean Yelp events for people who write reviews. And extra special events for Yelp Elite. Yelp Elite recently got to do a food relay race of sorts through MGM Grand.

Yelp has sparked discussion and controversy in other communities. Some think that common folk should not be writing “reviews.” ELV might agree. But I think quality mass reviews are a quick and easy way to separate the wheat from the chaff. And that’s what Yelp and other review sites are striving for.
