Tasting Table on Asian Vegas – the national press finally starts paying attention

Skip the mega-steakhouses and celeb chef outposts: Right now, Sin City is an Asian destination

That’s the headline to this article (written by Geraldine Campbell — and Official Friend Of ELV) on yesterday’s Tasting Table Web site.

Aside from not including Ping Pang Pong and Yunnan Garden (not to mention Dong Ting Spring and Kan’s Hong Kong Kitchen and Mother’s Korean BBQ and Lotus of Siam and Emperor’s Szechuan and…and….) — the post brings much needed attention to our Asian Vegas dining phenomenon.

BTW: Since the conclusion of Vegas Uncork’d last Sunday, ELV has heard from several national restaurant writers that teeny tiny Raku is now on everyone’s radar screen — which demonstrates the influence and impact a teeny tiny 30 seat restaurant can have.

Now, if only some non-Asian chef would have Mitsuo Endo’stalent and guts — and do the same thing with a non-Asian eatery (small space, big flavors, intense quality) — Las Vegas might finally start becoming the serious food town it needs to be.

  1. Reading this has inspired me to go have Chinese breakfast at Emperor’s Garden tomorrow morning. I wonder if they have the menus translated to English yet? Love being the only white guy in there in the mornings. One of the patrons actually thought I was lost. Mmm, fresh soy milk and you tiaos.

  2. Is there a signature dish, or particular part of the menu to focus on at Ping Pang Pong?
