If you haven’t been to Forte for awhile, you’ll be in for a small shock when you walk in the place. New highboy tables, upholstered chairs, a wine cellar, and a new logo all adorn the place, and bring a certain polish to the proceedings befitting Stefan Manchev’s finely-tuned food.

There’s even a caviar menu now, featuring fish eggs from Russia by way of Bulgaria, and a new farmers market every Sunday morning at 10:00 am.

Some of these changes were implemented to coincide with a taping of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (yet to be aired), but if this place gets any swankier, it may not qualify for that last sobriquet any longer.

Which is just fine with ELV and his staff.

This place is such a gem. But while the new look is not bad, we can not help but miss the feel of the old tables – like walking in off of an alley in Sofia, Budapest or Prague.

    Nina’s logo is priceless.
