“Look at the size of that thing!” are words not often uttered in ELV’s presence.

502 grams (17 0z. – a little over a pound) of pure, mottled, pale brown/tan musky tuber magnatum…put on this earth for the sole purpose of making food taste like sex.

Female sex to be precise.

Black truffles (tuber melanosporum) are said to smell and taste of male sex, as in: the scents and smells emanating from the male homo sapien sex organ.

ELV knows something about the former and next to nothing about the latter…but when it comes to truffles, he gladly takes on all comers.

The monster above arrived at Caesars Palace this past Wednesday from Urbani Truffles. It is the biggest white truffle to come to America so far this year and may end up being the biggest one of the year. Caesars Director of Restaurants Franck Savoy told us more than a few major New York restaurants were miffed at losing it to Las Vegas, and the opportunity to show it off in the Big Apple.

By the time you read this, it will probably be a third gone — having been showered on many a deluxe dish of guests indulging in Guy Savoy’s White Truffle Menu ($398), or the occasional food critic who wanders in and wonders out loud what’s making him so horny.

I’ve ordered White Truffles from Urbani this year and was really surprised how good they were. if you can’t make it to Guy Savoy, order some yourself and have some fun.
