BAZIC FUSION RESTAURANT

This is the sort of place where middle-aged, white guys in business suits elicit lots of “what’s a round-eye like you doing in here?” befuddlement from the staff when they walk in. After they stop staring (because you’re the first middle-age white guy in a suit ever to appear in the place), that staff then tries to talk you out of ordering anything good — assuming that being lost and starving are the only things that could’ve gotten you there.

What you’ve come for is the chicken. What you ignore is the emptiness of the place. What you get is food that is both bland and bizarre — not exactly a stretch for a “fusion” of American-Japanese-Korean eats, but strange just the same.

They claim that chicken is fried in olive oil, but ELV doubts this — as the flash point of olive oil is too low to get the high heat necessary for a crispy crust (although this article has a different opinion on the subject). Insist on the Korean sausage “assortment” (and insist is what you’ll have to do after your cute little waitron tries to talk you out of it), and you’ll get a big plate of only one “sort” of black, bland, glass noodle-stuffed, blood sausages with some salt on the side to make up for the lack of seasoning in the dish…which might make these the first and only underseasoned meat ever to come out of that country.

“Assortment my as…” — we thought to ourselves when it arrived. “They’re probably just keeping the good stuff from the haolie.” Or maybe, that’s as good as it gets(?)

But the Korean beer (Hite) was hoppy and good, and the whole enchilada cost about thirty dollars (for two)…leaving ELV and his staff to conclude that, if you’re a 20-something, spiky-haired, frosted-tips, Asian ute, looking to head off a hangover at 2:00 AM, Bazic is basically just what the doctor ordered. Others need not apply.

  1. Hey John – try this place during the day and get one of the pork cutlet lunch specials for lunch. I think you’ll be both surprised, and impressed, with the quality and taste of what you are served!
