Happy Father’s Day from Eating Las Vegas!

Anthony John Curtas (born Antonis Yanni Cutsumpas – Feb. 10, 1926-Feb. 3, 2006) — The Official Father of ELV — had only a six months left on this mortal vale when we recorded this tribute to him on Father’s Day 2004. It gives you some insight into A. J. Curtas (as he was known), and also into our upbringing in restaurants — a three minute tour of the eating experiences in the 1960s that inspired us.

ELV got choked up writing and recording it, as did Dad when he first heard it. But rather than wallowing in sentimentality for which he is know, ELV prefers to celebrate Father’s Day as we usually do: watching the U.S. Open* and thinking about all those children he almost fathered.**

* Dad, always a decent amateur golfer, became an avid one late in life (three holes-in-one after age 70!). Both ELV and Marcella Ruth Schroader Curtas (d.o.b. 8.10.24 – The Official Mother of ELV) credit the world’s greatest game with prolonging and enriching his life over its last ten years.

** And, of course, Anthony Robert Curtas (d.o.b. 10.25.75) and Hugh Alexander Curtas (d.o.b. 10.15.84), affectionately known around the ELV offices as our staff.

  1. A. J. Curtas was often thought to resemble a mobster. He could also play a mean game of pinball! I will never forget the man.
