Without Googling anything (and you are on your honor on this one), can you guess the name of the building in these two pictures, and recite and print verbatim the motto/saying/slogan that adorns its edifice?

First correct answer to both questions in the comments section wins a free restaurant reviewing lunch with ELV, that may or may not be chaperoned by The Food Gal depending upon your:

1) Age;

2) Sex, and;

3) Level of resemblance to either this or this mega-babe.

An out of town winner will receive a voucher, to be redeemed at their convenience, good for the aforementioned prize, whenever they find themselves in ELV’s humble burg.

Do not participate or attempt to participate if you suffer from:

  1. Is that the office of the U.S. Postmaster General?

    And here’s my no-Google, wish I remembered elementary school guess as to the motto:

    Neither snow nor heat nor rain nor gloom of night shall keep us from our charge.

  2. As an Ex New Yorker how could I not know the main post office building in Manhattan whose slogan is: Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.

    Knew it as a kid, and know it still.

    All the best,

    Fred

  3. Forgot to mention, that I know it so well because it is two city blocks across from the 8th Avenue entrance to Penn Station where I got the Long Island Railroad every weekday for 25 years.

  4. Currently the building is called the James Farley Post Office, but it will be eventually called the Moynihan Station, in honor of Daniel Patrick Moynihan. IIRC the post office no longer resides at the entrance shown in the pictures, they moved to the rear of the building in preparation for the Pen Station renovation. The anchor tenant for the new project will be NJ Metro, Amtrack was also planned to relocate but last I heard finances will keep them from doing so.

    motto: Neither rain nor snow nor sleet nor rain nor gloom of night shall xxxxxx… thats as much as I got from memory

    I know I nailed the first part, second part not so much :-(

    1) Age: old enough to know better than post this online

    2) Sex: no. I don’t think my girlfriend would approve and I dont go that way.

    3) Level of resemblance to either this or this mega-babe: I’m a man…. man!
