Henry Moore Sculpture – Reclining Connected Forms

March 08, 2010 By: John Curtas Category: Miscellaneous

ELV ain’t no arch-ee-teck, but no matter how many times we walk past this sculpture (…usually on our way to Brasserie Puck or Mastro’s Ocean Club):

Henry Moore sculpture

…we stop and look at it…

…and it never gets old.

And it makes us think.

About what we can’t rightly say, but it shore is a thought-provoker…

And maybe, that’s what fine art is about.

Making you think.

Which ain’t somethin’ casinos have been known to inspire in the past.

In fact, they make their $$$ doing just the exact opposite.

And the fact that the Aria Hotel and Casino is playing against type, by surrounding itself with loads of interesting art, is something for which it should be applauded.

So we at ELV hereby want to do just that.

And I’ll join in the applause! Whatever one’s complaints may be about CityCenter, the art truly is thought provoking.

The Jenny Holzer installation at Aria Valet is another of my faves.

I liked City Centre and it’s art as well. It’s a shame to think how much better it would’ve been had they not ran outta money.

Today I was standing near the entrance to the buffet at Aria and noticed a bunch of wire hanging down from the ceiling which resembled a bowl of spaghetti or a dust bunny under a bed. I thought perhaps some electrical wire had come loose and needed to be repaired. I turned and happened to see a little sign attached to a column which notified me that the loose wires I had been looking at was actually art. It supposedly represented “the human body’s transformation” or something to that effect. Uhhh, ok.

A moment later as I walked down the hallway I passed a vase which looked like any old vase you can pick up at Bed Bath and Beyond for about 40 bucks. Turns out it also was some sort of “art” and is worth a whole lot more than 40 bucks. I guess I just have an eye for these things.

I’ll be in Las Vegas in May for Uncork’d. Looking forward to checking out more of the art there in City Center. When I was last there, Vdara had just opened, along with Crystals. But Aria was not opened. I DID get to see the giant canoe sculpture, (neat piece. Liked it a lot) and a few other random pieces at Vdara itself.
