BLT BURGER – Opening Party

Since ELV is a close FOLT (Friend Of Laurent Tourondel), he can be no more objective about the BLT restaurants than he is about The Official Number One and Number Two Sons of ELV. Therefore, please consider all comments within that context, and enjoy these tasty snaps of both last week’s opening party and some of our recommended menu items. Between the NBA greats attending the party (Bill Walton, Doc Rivers, P. J. Carlesimo, et al) and a bevy of attractive females of the opposite persuasion, ELV’s head was on a swivel the entire night. Whenever The Food Gal asked who we were staring at (which occurred with annoying regularity), we found it most convenient to say “Bill Walton” as he was so hard to miss. ELV highly recommends attending parties with lots of famous basketball players should you ever wish to do some serious girl-watching.

L’ATELIER DE JOEL ROBUCHON

ELV has sung the praises of L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon so many times (KNPR, KNPR, JohnMariani.com, KLAS TV et al), another rave review seems redundant. It was our Restaurant of the Year in 2006, and Chef Steve Benjamin, Pastry Chef Kamel Guechida (Bon Appetit Magazine, KNPR and KLAS TV’s Pastry Chef of the Year for 2007), along with General Manager Emmanuel Cornet, run such a tight ship that updating any of those past reviews is unnecessary. But we cruised by there last week and were as impressed as ever by the food, so we thought we’d feature some tasty snaps to inspire some serious salivatory stimulation.

He was a great chef as chefs go, and as chefs go, he went.

This just in: Carlos Guia, formerly of Commander’s Palace in the Alladin (now Planet Hollywood), and recently Executive Chef of Louis’ and Louis’ Fish Camp at the Town Square Mall on the South Strip, has moved to meatier climes by becoming Chef de Cuisine at the SW Steakhouse in the Wynn. Sean Kahlenberg, formerly Guia’s Number One at Louis’ is now top toque at both of Louis Osteen’s Low Country cooking venues.

Guia is moving from a spot that averaged 50-100 covers a night to one that routinely does 400+. SW’s record is 720 covers in one night (that’s 144 dinners an hour), so Carlos (as talented as he is) had better keep his track shoes on.
