Vegas Uncork’d Kickoff!

ELV note: Yesterday marked the big kickoff for Bon Appetit presents Vegas Uncork’d at the Fashion Show Mall…and also the first day tickets for this event (now in its fifth year) go on sale. Many events sell out quickly, so click here to get while the gettin’ is good.

Here are but a few of the highlights that foodies won’t want to falter in following throughout the weekend of May 5-8:

At Bellagio:

Eating Las Vegas – Get in on the Culinary Conversation with top Las Vegas food critics and Eating Las Vegas authors John Curtas, Max Jacobson and Al Mancini. Moderated by a Bon Appétit editor, the tasting trio will dish about their book covering the city’s 50 essential restaurants while guests enjoy small plates from top Bellagio restaurants on Saturday, May 7.

ALEX Closes – The Enemy of Great is Good

Le mieux est l’ennemi du bien. (The best is the enemy of the good.) – Voltaire

There are passion restaurants and there are money restaurants. ALEX — the jewel in the supposed crown of the Wynn hotel — was supposed to be both, but was unceremoniously shut down on short (ten days) notice, despite being the very embodiment of the former, but (apparently) failing as the latter. What really went on behind the scenes leading up to its untimely demise will probably never be known, but the shudder has been felt by the entire Vegas food world (that now extends around the globe), and provides the perfect catalyst to review, and speculate about, what has happened to dining in restaurants, in Las Vegas, over the past seventeen years.
