JOE’S STONE CRAB Surprises

It wasn’t cheap (lunch pour deux came to 85 drachmas), but it was surprising.

And by surprising we mean we were all set to be disappointed by another meal at Joe’s Stone Crab (or whatever they call it these days) and were anything but.

Our crab bisque was properly crabby and intense; our “dry-aged chopped steak”  juicy, beefy and onion-y; the fish and chips an exemplary version; and the taters and dessert (a form of tres leches cake) so toothsome we were fighting the Burger Maven for every bite.

All at a joint we had previously dismissed as a B-flat alternative to Palm. (Yeah, that’s how low our opinion had sunk.)

But the above lunch was so tasty, we at ELV are looking forward to a re-match.

And if you’re in the mood for a chain steakhouse, you could do a lot worse.

Just thought you’d like to know.

I just went to Joe’s Stone Crab this Tues. That coleslaw is straight up nasty. Watery and cloyingly sweet. The crab was frozen due to it being out of season. The steak was dry and almost leathery, which I find quite an accomplishment considering it was a filet. Never again, well maybe when the crab is in season. You can have the rest.
