Eat This Now – RAO’S Chicken Scarpariello

About now, you’re probably asking yourself: Self, just where does a just-published food critic go for a quick bite after consuming superb French fare at Guy Savoy?

To which ELV’s staff can only say: Why, to Rao’s of course. Downstairs from GS at Caesars Palace, where the spicy and sweet, hot and tangy, winy, chicken and sausage-fest known as Chicken Scarpariello awaits.

Truth be told, the kick of hot and sweet peppers, not to mention hot and sweet sausages, along with savory chicken in a deeply-flavored, vinegar-tinged wine sauce, was just the thing to reawaken our palate after all that fabulous French food.

The jolt of a rustic Italian red, chosen by super-somm John Burke, was another nice touch to end the evening on.

As were the cheesecake(s) — pumpkin and classic — and the peanut butter ice cream chocolate sandwich.

From high-brow French to Italian hominess to over-the-top American desserts…all in one night?

Yep….and you wonder why that white suit keeps getting tighter?

That chicken costs $28.

Just thought you’d like to know.

  1. ELV responds: All “scarpariello” means is “shoemaker’s style.” Our guess is shoemakers in Italy make all kinds of different dishes!

Great video @Tom! Watching old dudes who love to cook might become a habit with videos as simple and charming as that.

  2. Wow- At the same time you were eating the scarpariello on one side of the restaruant, I was having it on the oposite side (After spending the night smiling for the cameras with you, I’d asked to be seasted as far away from you as possible — LOL.) It was the first time I’d had the dish at Rao’s, and I thought it was excellent.
