Turning Japanese at CAFE DE JAPON

[nggallery id=1418]

Is everybody turning Japanese?

ELV really thinks so….based upon the recent, well-attended Aki Matsuri Japanese festival, and the surfeit of Rising Sun sustenance that’s surfaced on Spring Mountain — including the aforementioned Anime Ramen, and now Cafe de Japon.

Right about now, ELV imagines you’re thinking to yourself: “No sex, no drugs, no wine, no women, no fun, no sin, no you, no wonder it’s dark…”

…but the food and drink, including huge jars of fresh, house-made yuzu soda — not to mention the mellow and rich filter coffee and insanely light cheese soufflĂ© dessert (what we would call cheesecake, although it really is a soufflĂ©) — is damn tasty.

And the design will put you in mind of a cozy, Kyoto cafe.

And it just opened a month ago.

And you should go.

I really think so.

  1. I’m just amazed ELV has heard of the vapors (the 80s band, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to hear him use that term to refer to personal maladies.)

  2. This place is wonderful. If they have the Marron Chantilly dessert, do not miss it — too wonderful for words. Great spot, very soothing, comforting old-fashioned atmosphere, even fabulous iced coffee. Can’t wait to try those sodas.

  3. Kiichi the owner, used to be the sushi master at Sushi Roku in the Forum Shops. I hope he turns up the creative juice, as this spot with him at the helm, has a great deal of potential.
