Eat This Now – SCARPETTA’S $24 Spaghetti

The discovery of a new dish does more for the happiness of mankind than the discovery of a star – Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin

A word to the wise, though. Some nights the dish is loaded with tomatoes, some nights it isn’t. Some times you get a nice zing from the pepperocini oil used to finish the dish, sometimes you don’t. Executive Chef Dan Rossi tells ELV he’s still training his cooks to get it consistently right, but even when it’s a tad off, this dish is quite a dish.

  1. I haven’t found a good way to figure this out from The Cosmopolitan’s website, and before resorting to making fake Open Table reservations for every restaurant, I’m wondering if you’ve figure out which restaurants are open for lunch. Do you know?

  2. Thanks Brenda….you are correct, but Holstein’s is also open for lunch, as is China Poblano.
    Costas Spiliadis has told us Milos also plans to open for a quite reasonable lunch in the near future, but we’ve actually advised him against it….as lunch in Vegas is a notoriously hard sell to gamblers, shoppers, conventioneers and party-ers alike…;-{

  3. this is simple elegant pasta with tomato and basil. when Scott was here it was given to all patrons as a chefs free taste. It is just delicious

  4. I’ve has this in New York and it’s wonderful! I agree it’s quite a dish.

    John, Are you planning on taking a taste at Wicked Spoon? Hate buffets but this is getting good reviews and I’m intrigued by their little tapas dishes….

  5. He’ll no, I ate at scarpetta on nye and it was nothing to write home about
    If you plan on spending the kind of money scarpetta charges at Cosmo, go to milos

  6. Ate at Scarpetta last night, we had almost everything on the menu. The most impressive parts of the meal were the appetizers, other than that the only dishes that stood out as being above average was the beet & smoked ricotta casonesi and the capretto. The atmosphere was stellar, but I would not go out of my way to eat there again when standouts like Jaleo and Blue Ribbon are right next door at Cosmopolitan.

    I don’t understand ELV’s rave about the spaghetti at all. I would expect the spaghetti to be on the kids menu, it should only appeal to people who have unadventurous palates; it reminds me of the “American friendly” options in Rome’s tourist districts. I admit it is good to have a dish like this on the menu so there are options that appeal to a wide variety of consumers that a place like Scarpetta’s needs to service, but to promote it as the signature contribution to civilization is a bit off base. The dish is nothing more than what Ma & Pa from Minnesota rave about when they come back from their trip to Italy where they eat spaghetti and pizza at every meal.
